Verizon was awarded $11.1 million to expand broadband to rural areas

Hello all-

This week Verizon was awarded $11.1 million to expand broadband to rural areas.  There were 6 counties they won the bids for.  This is in large part to the work and efforts of our Broadband Brigade State Leads, Eddie Miller and Marcus Chambers, working with Verizon.  As well as the lobbying efforts of Jimmy Tarlau and continued interactions with other Labor unions and with the MD/DC AFL-CIO through Shannon Opfer our State President.  It was also possible with  the involvement of you, your Local and your members. There is still more money to be awarded this Fall under the BEAD program and we will continue to work on that.  We will be asking for your participation in those efforts as well.
