Message From Nick

Brothers and sisters,

By now you all should have heard of the passing of our brother from local 2108. Osmar Chavarria leaves behind a wife and three sons that will need our love, prayers and support during this most difficult time. Navigating through this tragic and unimaginable news is nothing short of devastating for them. I am asking that the members of 2100 who are able to help in any way to support this mother and her children to please do so. You can donate through the attached go fund me link or you can make arrangements with the hall.

Brother Osmar Chavarria lost his life Tuesday July 9th while working aloft in his bucket and came into contact with power. He left his home that morning with a wife and three sons who expected him to return at the end of his work day. His return home will never happen. Now this family has to mourn the tragic loss of their loved one. The cause of this incident is yet unknown and is still under investigation. I want to take this opportunity to reiterate what I said on the call this morning. SAFETY IS YOUR CALL!!! THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS!!! Every safety protocol, every piece of PPE, every safety step has a story behind it. It is YOUR job to wear the PPE. It is YOUR job to follow the safety steps in place. It is YOUR job to ask for help or to call for a second opinion. No one is going to discipline you for asking for help or for doing the job safe.  Should you have questions about anything safety related say something. Take the time you need to survey the job to ensure YOUR safety and the safety of others. Take the time to wear the appropriate PPE and to use the proper tools and equipment.

Don't do the right thing because the company tells you to. Don't work safe because I am begging you to. Work safe because you matter to someone. Find your reason for taking the time to do it safe and use that reason every day on every job!! Work safe so that you can go home to your loved ones at the end of the day. They would rather you be late than to never come home again. There are many dangers that we encounter on the job. It YOUR responsibility to be aware of them and to take the correct actions to avoid or minimize them. From driving to working around power. It is YOUR life so YOU need to be vigilant in YOUR safety.

I want you all to go home safe and sound however I can't want that more than YOU do. Be responsible for YOUR safety. Find YOUR reason for being safe. YOU MATTER!! YOU CAN NOT BE REPLACED.
